The B.C. government has announced an exciting new project to convert the underutilized ICBC headquarters at Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver into housing. This 300,000-square-foot building, strategically located next to the SeaBus terminal and a bus loop, offers an ideal site for new homes, particularly given its excellent transit connections and proximity to amenities. Premier David Eby and Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Rob Fleming have highlighted the importance of repurposing well-connected but underused areas to address housing shortages. The project is expected to create several hundred new homes, contributing significantly to the government’s goal of delivering 10,000 homes near transit hubs over the next 10 to 15 years.
The province will collaborate with First Nations, TransLink, and the City of North Vancouver on this initiative. The site is on the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples, ensuring that the development will consider and respect the cultural significance of the land.
